I'm Representative Stephen Casey, and it has been an incredible honor to serve the people of Rhode Island. Throughout my time in office, I have tackled some of the most pressing challenges facing our state and worked tirelessly to make a positive impact on the lives of Rhode Islanders.
During the worst housing crisis our state has ever seen, I was appointed to serve as Chair of the House Municipal Government and Housing Committee. In this role, I addressed the urgent housing needs of our communities and advocated for policies that promote affordable housing and support those struggling to find a safe place to call home.
As Chair of the Health & Human Services Committee during the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked diligently to protect the health and well-being of Rhode Islanders. I led efforts to ensure that our healthcare system remained resilient in the face of unprecedented challenges, while also prioritizing the needs of vulnerable populations and advocating for comprehensive support services.
With a commitment to improving access to healthcare, I introduced legislation that expands Rhode Islanders' access to telemedicine coverage. By requiring all Rhode Island Medicaid programs to cover telemedicine visits, we are ensuring that individuals have convenient and affordable access to vital healthcare services, especially in underserved communities.
I have been a first responder for 17 years, which has given me a unique perspective on the challenges faced by our communities. This experience has shaped my advocacy for public safety and my dedication to supporting our police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel who selflessly serve and protect our neighborhoods.
Throughout my tenure, I have championed legislation that addresses critical issues and strengthens our state. From sponsoring laws to combat gun violence and promote transparency in our legal system to supporting economic development initiatives that uplift our communities, I have been at the forefront of important legislation that aims to improve the lives of Rhode Islanders.
My commitment extends to promoting recovery and behavioral healthcare. I have submitted legislation authorizing the certification of recovery housing facilities, ensuring that individuals have access to the support they need on their journey to recovery.
I am deeply passionate about the City of Woonsocket and the economic landscape of our state. By advocating for legislation that encourages long-term investments in low-income urban and rural communities, I aim to create opportunities for growth and prosperity.
I am proud of the progress we have made together, but there is still work to be done. I invite you to explore this website, learn more about my positions on key issues, and join me in shaping a brighter future for Rhode Island. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive state where every Rhode Islander has the opportunity to thrive.
Thank you for your support.
